Street Outreach

Bringing Services and Resources to Our Community

Aside from housing instability, individuals experiencing homelessness are often facing other barriers preventing them from accessing valuable resources due to lack of transportation, lack of insurance, mental illness, substance use or simply not knowing where to go. On a given night in 2017, 20% of the homeless population reported having a serious mental illness, 16% conditions related to chronic substance use, and more than 10,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS.

The PRC Outreach team breaks down some of those barriers through our Street Outreach program by meeting the people exactly where they’re at. Every Wednesday our Street Outreach team is in the Fort Wayne downtown area providing free HIV and Hepatitis C testing along with necessities like safer use kits, hygiene products, condoms, socks, t-shirts, and sunscreen. While providing testing and necessities our team is also able to provide referrals for many different community resources.
